Les Cunningham This velvet toned baritone balladeer is a native Detroiter. Born on the city’s legendary “8-Mile”, Leslie has been singing since he was just a youngster. Educated through the Detroit Public School System, Leslie is a proud graduate of Northern High School where he was a soloist in the chorus. Leslie received his formidable vocal training under the tutelage of Charles Porter of the Christianaires. A phenomenal showstopper, Leslie would participate in local talent shows and drive audiences into a frenzy. In 1959, Lee’s Sensation Lounge got their first glimpse of Leslie’s prowess when he opened the show for Walter Jackson. Leslie went on to form his first group The Fabulous Master Tones! Several years later, Jazz organist, Rod Lumpkin along with guitarist, Omar Walker often invited Leslie to be an on-stage guest with the infamous Rod Lumpkin Jazz Trio working numerous jazz venues throughout Michigan. As a solo artist, Leslie performed for the grand opening for Allen’s Market, the first African-American owned and operated supermarket in Royal Oak Township, Michigan. It was during this special event that he introduced his daughter Lisa to the stage while singing a duet “Hot Fun in the Summer Time” a Sly & the Family Stone soul classic. Leslie recognizes
